Are You Building a Business?

You don't know how many times I get an email from someone asking the following questions:

"I built a website just like you told me to, why am I not making any money yet?"
or
"If I buy one of your websites, how much money will I make and how long will it take?"

Well, here is my answer:

In order to make money from any website, you have to build your business. (WARNING: Work is involved)

If you spend your day fiddling with everything to make your site pretty and chatting withp your friends you are not building a business.

If you are signed up for several mailing lists where the list owner keeps telling you he has found the perfect product to build your business and you keep buying new ebooks and software, you aren't building your business, you are building his business.  Read this

Building a business is work. Getting traffic is work. Some times it is fun work, other times it is boring work and it is even hard work at times. The good news is... If you work real hard now, eventually you will be able to work much less.

With an online business, people aren't going to drive down the road and notice your sign out front and stop in. You have to work day after day driving traffic to your site.

Many people think all they have to do is put up a website and they are in business. This is like building a store in an underground cave and not telling anyone about it. Your only customers will be those who accidentally run across it. How often is that going to happen?

Are you going to sit in your cave and wait for customers? No. You have to let people know you are there.

Working on creating traffic is now your job. You will be building a business when you decide to stop buying new ebooks, stop looking for the magic bullet and start working on getting new customers to your store.
