Mailing Lists

How many mailing lists are you on? How's that working out for you?

Here is the problem with mailing lists... You really need to have one of your own and you need to get off of 90% of the lists you are on.

I know you have heard it many times... The money is in the list. This is true! Most mailing lists are created to build a customer base of people who trust you enough to take your recommendation and buy the product you are promoting.

Knowing this, you have to realize that 90% (maybe more) of the lists you are on were created for the sole purpose of selling you stuff.

You are on someone's "Buy This" list. Maybe several people's lists.

They really don't care about you, they want your money. This is very evident when you notice that many of these lists have 'noreply@website.com' as their return address. Basically, what they are saying is, "I want you to buy this thing so I can make more money but don't bother me with your questions, I am not your friend!"

They tell you they have your success in mind when they are trying to get your email address but in the end, you are just another credit card.

OK, so here's what you should be asking yourself...

  • Is being on this list helping my business?
  • Am I learning anything from this list owner?
  • Is this just another sales pitch disguised as a review?
  • If I write to the list owner, will I get a reply?

If you answered the above questions honestly about the lists you are on, you will find you can quit 90% or more of these lists and your business will not suffer one bit. They are simply advertisements that you agreed to receive.

Quit the lists and you will be able to spend more time building your business and much less time sorting the mail. Are you a business owner or the mail room clerk? You decide!

Once you have taken a good look at the lists you are on, start removing yourself from most of them. Don't worry, you won't miss anything... unless your goal is to spend as much money as possible on useless junk.
